In a modern mashup, Nike has created a collection of four ‘Future DNA’ limited edition boots based on classic colorways of the past set to be released over the course of the month.

First up is the Phantom VSN 2. Look familiar? It should. Based on the original Nike Hypervenom from 2013, the new Future Series VSN channels the iconic orange and black design and even features the skull and crossbones graphic that appeared on the first Hypervenom.

The skull and crossbones logo serves as a warning to defenders.

On top of looks, the Future Series Phantom VSN 2 also comes equipped with added texture where attackers need it most — on the instep for close control, and on the outside of the foot for skilled dribbling and creative passing.

Along with these tributes to the Hypervenom 1, the new VSN also boasts the Ghost Lacing system and a flexible mesh inner lining that provides a snug and comfortable fit.

March 13th Update

The second Future DNA boot is here! Nike announced the release of a remastered Mercurial Vapor 13, based on the original Mercurial Superfly from 2009.

First worn by Cristiano Ronaldo 11 years ago, the first Nike Superfly boot incorporated Flywire technology into its frame, and also added a carbon fiber soleplate for increased lightness, flexibility and durability.

Now, the Future DNA model brings in modern updates such as high-tenacity yarns across the upper to reduce unnecessary stretching and all conditions control to limit moisture from entering the shoe.

March 20th Update

Nike ended the week by announcing the third piece of the Future DNA pack: the Phantom VNM. Paying homage to the Nike Air Zoom Total 90 II from 2002 worn by the likes of Luis Figo and Francesco Totti, the new VNM brings back the vintage white, black and red color scheme.

The Air Zoom Total 90 II was a cleat built with precision finishing in mind, complete with off-center lacing to give players a larger boot-to-ball striking surface. Now, Nike has taken that direction and added Phantom VNM’s modern technology to create a boot worthy for the greatest goalscorers.

A closer look at the Precision Pwr strike zone.

The Precision Pwr strike zone along the inside of the foot features a series of ridges that are angled in a manner that helps keep the ball low with more force.

March 27th Update

The fourth and final remake has been unveiled, with the Tiempo Legend 8 rounding out the past-inspired boot line.

The latest Nike Tiempo gets the Legend IV color treatment.

With a nod to the Legend IV Elite from 2011, which was the lightest Tiempo ever made by a margin of 20 grams, this latest leather boot stands out similarly with a vibrant splashes of orange on the tongue, studs and heel graphics.

The innovative boot technologies developed by Nike in the past nine years have made their way into this new Tiempo through the inclusion of the diamond quilted upper and Flyknit tunnel, promoting clean touches and a snug fit. In addition, Quadfit mesh prevents the Tiempo Legend 8 leather from overstretching, resulting in one of the most comfortable boots on the market.

The diamond quilted upper gives players an unparalleled control surface.
