Meet adidas Conext 19

World Cup match balls have become symbolic of the tournaments the represent. Many equate the adidas Tango balls to World Cups throughout the 1970s. And who could forget the Brazuca from the Brazil 2014? The point is, more often than not we remember them by their appearance, without stopping to appreciate the technology behind their creation.
This leads us to the adidas Conext 19, the official ball of the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France. Before we talk specifics, it is worth noting the design inspiration. The printed graphic, which shows the earth from above is difficult to ignore. According to adidas, the coloring is a tribute to the Tricolore ball used in the 1998 World Cup, which was won by the French men’s team.
Now, on to the good stuff.
Conext 19 is completely seamless due to being thermally bonded. In addition, each of the ball’s panels are exactly the same size and shape. As a result, the ball sustains a predictable trajectory upon striking — no more deceptive dipping and swerving.
Thermal bonding also ensures that water uptake is minimal in inclement weather, meaning Conext 19 will maintain a true weight and feel.
Even more texture grip has been added to the surface for increased dribbling and ball control ability. This change was made in response to feedback from Conext 15, which was used in the 2015 Women’s World Cup.
In essence, this ball ticks all the boxes when it comes to looks and performance. Set to the be the most advanced match ball yet, Conext 19 will take center stage in France this summer when the tournament kicks off on June 7th.
