New Balance have revealed custom Furon v5 boots for Liverpool and Senegal standout Sadio Mané, set to be worn by the player throughout this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations. Named ‘Maguum’, only 405 pairs exist globally to signify the distance in kilometers Mané traveled from his hometown of Bambaly to Sengal’s capital, Dakar, to attend his first-ever soccer trials.

In Wolof, the language of Senegal, ‘Maguum’ translates to ‘rise’, relating to an artistic ritual called The Simb, based on the idea of transformation of man into a lion. As such, the boots are primarily white with fur-like details covering the upper portion of each shoe.

Mané’s number 10 is printed above the laces, while other personal branding is located towards the heel. Along the inside of the heel cup is a lion print, while the dates of Mané’s first international cap and goal appear on the tips of both laces.

“I’m so proud to have a boot that celebrates my connection to my homeland. New Balance’s design team have done a fantastic job of creating a design that represents my football journey and my Senegalese heritage,” says Mané.
